En juin 2013, Sébastien Roubinet et Vincent Berthet embarquaient à Sand Point sur le Manguier avec Babouchka, un catamaran prévu pour naviguer sur les flots et sur les glaces. Leur objectif: rallier en ligne droite l’Alaska à la Norvège en passant par le pôle Nord. Leur expédition, baptisée La voie du pôle, a fait l’objet d’un film, réalisé par Thierry Robert. Le Manguier a ainsi servi pendant un mois, de Sand-Point à Barrow, de bateau-porteur pour le Babouchka et de base logistique pour l’équipe de tournage. Les deux vidéos qui suivent constituent le making-of du film «Babouchka, l’Enfer du Pôle», diffusé le 7 mars 2014 sur FR3 dans l’émission Thalassa.

N’hésitez pas à diffuser largement ces vidéos, qui constituent un document exceptionnel sur une expédition hors du commun, mais apportent aussi un témoignage précieux sur les capacités logistiques du Manguier.

The « Mango tree » in the ice …

June 2013, Sébastien Roubinet & Vincent Berthet embarked in Sand Point on the Manguier (which mean « mango tree » in French, hence this blog’s title) with Babushka, a small catamaran designed for sailing on water and sea ice. Their aim: to rally in a straight line from Alaska to Norway (actually Svalbard islands) via the North Pole. Their expedition, named « The Way of the pole », was the subject of a film, directed by Thierry Robert. The Manguier has been used for a month, from Sand Point to Barrow, as a boat-bearer for Babushka and as a log base for the crew. Both of the following videos (not yet dubbed nor subtitled in English, sorry) stand as the making-of that film « Babushka, the hell on the Pole » aired last March 7th on some public French TV-Channel, in the show Thalassa.

Feel free to widely share these videos, they are a nice piece of info about this outstanding expedition’s start, but also provide valuable evidence of the logistics capabilities of the Manguier.
