A new start
Thanks to the relationship forged between Friends of the Manguier and the people of the village of Akunnaaq, the idea of a new project and corresponding nonprofit was born. The villages of Greenland are the soul, the memory, and what makes the country unique. Their inhabitants live in close contact with the natural environment and the preservation their culture and history is critical. Friends of Akunnaaq was born out of this awareness with the following objectives:
- To support and assist the cultural and artistic development of the Greenlandic village of Akunnaaq, in all its human, technical, logistical and financial aspects.
- To promote and share this adventure with the widest possible audience.
In particular:- Organizing stays and artist residencies
- Launching publications, conferences and exhibitions
- Organizing cultural, artistic and/or nautical events and performances.
Akunnaaq, a village of art and culture
In 2019, with the support of Akunnaaq villagers and the larger Community of Communes of Qeqertalik (Aasiaat), Friends of the Manguier restored a village house, which is now the Akunnaaq Culture House.
In 2022, they launched the Akunnaaq, Village of Art and Culture project, its aim being to promote authentic cultural activities and to provide a place for artistic creation and reconnection with nature.
The main objectives of this project are to:
- promote Greenlandic art, crafts and culture;
- continue the Artists in the Arctic residencies in the Akunnaaq Culture House, and encourage exchanges between artists and local residents;
- build up a collection of artistic works in the form of a local Art Gallery;
- welcome visitors to the area;
- create a thematic and artistic walking trail in and around both the village and the island of Akunnaaq.
Un nouveau cap
Grâce aux liens d’amitié développés entre l’association et les habitants du village d’Akunnaaq, l’idée d’une nouvelle association a vu le jour. En effet, les villages du Groenland sont l’âme, la mémoire et l’originalité de ce pays. Leurs habitants vivent en lien étroit avec la Nature. Ils constituent une vraie richesse qu’il est extrêmement important de préserver. L’association Les Amis d’Akunnaaq est née de ces constats et a pour objet :
- De soutenir et d’aider à la réalisation du développement culturel et artistique du village
groenlandais d’Akunnaaq, que ce soit sur le plan humain, technique, logistique ou financier. - De faire connaître et de partager cette aventure avec le plus large public possible.
Avec notamment :- L’organisation de séjours et de résidences
- Les publications, les conférences, les expositions.
- L’organisation de manifestations et de représentations culturelles et/ou artistiques et/ou
nautiques.
Akunnaaq, village d’art et de culture
En 2019, avec le soutien des habitants du village d’Akunnaaq et de la Communauté de Communes de Qeqertalik (Aasiaat), l’association remet en état une maison communale du village, qui devient la Maison Culturelle d’Akunnaaq.
En 2022, elle développe le projet Akunnaaq, village d’Art et de Culture. Il vise à favoriser des activités authentiques et l’ouverture d’un lieu de création et de ressourcement en lien étroit avec
la Nature.
Les premiers objectifs de ce projet sont :
- valoriser l’art, l’artisanat et la culture groenlandaise dans la Maison Culturelle ;
- poursuivre les résidences Artistes en Arctique et favoriser la rencontre entre artistes et
habitants ; - créer un fonds d’œuvres artistiques, regroupé sous forme de Galerie d’Art ;
- accueillir des visiteurs ;
- ouvrir un parcours pédestre thématique et artistique dans le village et l’île
d’Akunnaaq.
