As the pilot of 3 sea expeditions (1594, 1594, 1597), Barents aimed to find the way to China along the coast of Tartaria but he was stopped each time by the ice season coming back. His fleets never sailed much further than Vaygats or Kara Straits.
Last night, Le Manguier passed the Kara Strait, south of New Zemble, motoring against a light breeze. Red and green lights (beacon)s were all we saw of land. We left Barents Sea for Kara Sea. Our next waypoint is White Island. Our e-mails warn us of a 30 knots north wind but we feel happy to be sailing along Siberia at last.
